This research is entitled On Being a Prostitute: An Analysis of the Main Character in the Novel “Tuhan, Izinkan Aku Menjadi Pelacur!” By Muhidin M. Dahlan (An Analysis using Freud’s Psychoanalysis Perspective). It attemps to find out the aspects that influence the main character to be a prostitute by investigating the conflicts and the events she experienced, using Freud’s psychoanalysis perspective.
This research is largely qualitative and seeks to find out the aspects influencing the main character to be a prostitute by investigating the conflicts and the events experienced by the main character through the particular elements of the text. All the data were collected through documentary investigations and interpretation by applying close reading strategy; reading profoundly and repeatedly; as well as taking notes on the textual evidence.
The research reveals four factors that influence the main character to be a prostitute: having poor ego function; dealing with many failures; being disappointed to God, men and love; and suffering from an intense depression.
